Coronavirus LIVE: Lockdown will need to be extended, says Uddhav Thackeray
Coronavirus India update: India’s total count of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases reached 26,496 and the death toll reached 824 on Sunday, according to Health Ministry. The country reported 1,990 new positive cases and 49 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorted people to shun complacency on the assumption that the pandemic will not affect them as it has so far not spread to areas they work or live in, saying “we have to continue being careful and taking the right precautions”. Addressing his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ programme, he also said that India’s fight against the novel coronavirus has become people-driven wherein every citizen is playing his or her part.
Coronavirus world updates: As the global death toll from the coronavirus surpassed 200,000, countries took cautious steps toward easing lockdowns imposed amid the pandemic, but fears of a surge in infections made even some outbreak-wounded businesses reluctant to reopen. The worldwide death toll was over 202,000, according to a count by John Hopkins University.
