BJP leaders engage in illegal sand extraction in dist: Priyank

Instead of taking steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the district, the State government and the elected representatives have engaged in getting the officials transferred and BJP leaders of the district have joined hands in the sand mafia, alleged Chittapur MLA Priyank Kharge.

Speaking at a press meet here on Tuesday, he said, illegal sand extraction and transport is unabated in Mashala village of Afzalpur taluk, Chittapur and Afzalpur taluks. No one is speaking in this regard. Covid-19 testing is not being done properly on the migrated
workers who returned to the district.

MP Umesh Jadhav has not made any effort to get the funds released to ESIC Hospital-Kalaburagi to fight Covid-19. He played politics in bringing the dead body from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi. Though the Congress leaders paid the bill, the MP hogged the media limelight as if he footed the bill, the MLA charged.

A district-level official has accused a MLA of demanding money from him. When the drama unfolded recently regarding the transfer of the deputy commissioner, the MP and MLAs released videos claiming that they have no role in the transfer. The district health officer was also transferred from the district but he was directed not to hand over the charge at the eleventh hour. Going by these developments, the administration is off the track, he said.

As Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) and ESIC hospitals have been declared as Covid-19 hospitals in the district, non-Covid patients are facing problems. The district administration has no information about how many non-Covid deaths have occurred in the district. The patients have been left bewildered as the treatment for diabetics, blood pressure, snake bite, dialysis, and others have been stopped.
