A day after permission, dist admin withdraws lockdown relaxation

KALABURAGI, Barely a day after granting permission to reopen several commercial establishments in the district, the district administration has withdrawn the order on Thursday night saying that the establishments and the people failed to ensure social distancing. As a result, most of the business establishments remained shut on Friday.

A large number of people thronged the market on Thursday, neglecting the social distancing and scrambled to buy vegetables, fruits, cloths, air coolers and air conditioners. Even businessmen gave no scope for social distancing. Out of 25 containment zones identified in Kalaburagi City, 20 are in the middle of the City and seal down has continued there.

No permission has been given for any activities in sealed down areas. However, the residents of the containment zone started walking to the market clandestinely.

Three more positive cases reported on Thursday has kept the district administration on tenterhooks. Deputy Commissioner B Sharat issued a revised order withdrawing the relaxation granted to business establishments and clarified that the lockdown will be tightened further

Businessmen were asked by the police to close a few establishments opened in Supar Market, Shaha Bazar, Old Jewargi Road, New Jewargi Road, MSK Mill and other areas. The City which remained locked for the past two months had retained the past glory on Thursday. 

Though Covid-19 positive cases are on the rise in the district, the decision of the union government to include the district in Orange Zone has surprised the people of the district. As per the Centre’s direction, lockdown was relaxed on May 4.

Due to fear, several businessmen did not open the shutters of their establishments for two days. However, the shops started the business on Thursday. But, the sudden withdrawal of the permission granted by the district administration has sent the people in confusion.
