Increasing containment zones in Yadgir dist
As many as 32 containment zones have been established in the district within one month to contain the spread of Covid-19.
The first Covid-19 case was reported in the district on May 12 when the couple who had returned from Ahmadabad to Yadgir tested positive for the virus. The same day, Asar Mohalla, where the couple stayed was declared as containment area. Later with the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, the containment zones also increased.
Hundreds of workers who had migrated to various cities returned to their native villages in Yadgir, Gurmatkal and Hunasagi taluks during the last one month.
They were kept under institutional quarantine. Even after the completion of 14 days, they could not get the Covid-19 test reports. The government also issued revised guidelines for the institutional quarantine. Thus, they were released from the institutional quarantine even before getting the reports.
They returned to their homes but the reports of some of the workers returned positive. They were called back to the designated hospital and their wards and villages were declared as containment zones.
Yadgir taluk alone has 14 containment zones while Gurmatkal has 10. Surpur and Hunasagi have one each and Shahapur taluk has four. Vadagera also has two containment zones.
The survey was completed up to 29.35% with the help of the containment zone App. The general survey being conducted across the district by polling booth officers, teachers and Asha workers was completed up to 90%. These 32 containment zones have 6,629 families and 147 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in these families.
Some others showed the symptoms during the quarantine period itself and therefore, shifted to the hospital. All of them have returned from Gujarat and Maharashtra to the district.
The local residents who were opposing the establishment of the quarantine centres in the schools and hostels have started opposing the containment zones too.
They have been demanding only to seal down the houses of the positive people.
Farmer Ramappa Shivappa of Lakshminagar said, with the onset of monsoon, he should work in the agriculture fields to cultivate crops. But if the officials sealdown the locality, none can go into the fields, he added.
