Vegetable prices soar in Yadgir dist
Yadgir, The prices of vegetables shot up following the restrictions on transportation.
The district administration and the urban local bodies have established makeshift vegetable markets at various places to facilitate the people. But the vendors have to transport the vegetables from one place to other and hiring the vehicles is a difficult task for them amidst the lockdown orders. The villagers have been staying back home and the farmers have not been getting vegetables to the market. However, the vegetables were brought from other places but their prices are heavy.
The price of tomato has doubled while the chilli price has also increased.
People have to pay a higher price for beetroot, beans, potato and other vegetables which are being transported from neighbouring districts.
Vendors alleged that the police have not been allowing them to transport the vegetables in vehicles. They are
also not supposed to sell them sitting beside the roads, they said. Vegetable markets in Yadgir City have been set up near Lakshmi Rice Mills, Satish commercial complex, Channareddy Layout, Ajiz Colony Garden, near Chiranjeevi School, near the degree college and Jama Layout.
Near Chiranjeevi School, barricades have been erected to maintain a distance between the sellers and the customers. If the people select the vegetables, the sellers weigh them and handover to the customers.
