Increase Covid-19 testing capacity at GIMS, officials told 57,000 people returned to the district from other States: DC

Expressing happiness over the measures taken in the district to contain the spread of Covid-19, Infrastructure Department Principal Secretary and District In-charge Secretary Kapil Mohan directed the officials to take stricter measures to arrest the further spread of the dreaded virus.

Speaking at a meeting with the district-level officials organised to review the measures taken to contain the spread of Covid-19 at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Saturday, Kapil directed the officials to increase testing capacity at the laboratory located at GIMS in case of spurt in the number of the suspected cases as 90 samples can be tested at the laboratory. The GIMS director was advised to submit a proposal to the government for kits required for rapid testing, the officer instructed

Deputy Commissioner B Sharat said about 57,000 people returned to the district from other States and Bengaluru. They have been kept under strict observation by collecting their information. They have been kept at migrants camp opened at Afzalpur and Jewargi, he said. 

Horticulture Department Deputy Director Santosh Sapandi informed the meet that watermelon growers had bumper crop this time. The price crashed due to the lockdown. The farmers failed to get good price though they took the produce to Hyderabad. Banana and papaya produces are being sold as usual. Despite the lockdown, tur is being procured. About 5000 quintals of tur are being purchased every day and dal mills are also functioning, APMC assistant secretary said.

Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike Commissioner Rahul Pandve explained the meeting about the measures taken to provide free food and milk to the orphans in the City.

Industry Department Joint Director Manik Raghoji said Chettinad and Kalaburagi cement factories which were closed due to lockdown have submitted a proposal seeking permission to reopen the factories. Kapil directed him to sent them to the government.

Regional Commissioner N V Prasad, City Police Commissioner N Satish Kumar, Superintendent of Police Iada Martin Marbaniang, Deputy Commissioner of Police Kishorebabu, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P Raja and other officials were present.
