BENGALURU: Four fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in Karnataka on Thursday, taking the state’s number of infected  to 55. This fresh cases included a 70-year-old woman from

Chikkaballapur who had died in Bengaluru on March 24 and whose throat swab results were announced two days later.

Of the other three patients, one each is from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Anantapura of Andhra Pradesh. The 35-year-old Mysuru man with no travel history to any of the Covid-19 affected countries nor in contact with any positive patient was found  infected, raising the spectre of the community spread of virus.

The man was working with the quality assurance section of a pharmaceutical company in Nanjangud near Mysuru. However, he was in contact with many healthcare professionals, said a bulletin issued by the state and health and family welfare department. He is being treated at an isolation facility in a designated hospital in Mysuru. Seven persons who were in contact with him were traced and home quarantined. A 45-year-old security guard in Bengaluru, who was a primary contact of a 51-year-old Covid-19 positive man who had returned from London on March 13 and tested positive on March 22, is among those found infected on Thursday. This is the first time in the state that a security guard has been diagnosed with Covid-19. Last week, a domestic help of a positive person had tested positive in Bengaluru. Thursday’s fourth Covid-19 patient is a 64-year-old man from Anantapura in Andhra Pradesh, who had arrived in India from France on March 1 and had travelled to Himachal Pradesh and Puttaparthi before arriving in Bengaluru on March 21. His contact tracing is going on, said health department authorities.
