Shramik train ferrying about 1,251 migrant workers stranded in Maharashtra after the lockdown was enforced, arrived at Kalaburagi Railway station at 2:30 am on Tuesday.
The train ferried migrant workers from Kalaburagi, Yadgir, and Vijayapur districts. The workers of the district were thermally screened on their arrival. They were sent to their respective taluk headquarters in 60 NEKRTC buses after getting their details.
A total of 676 workers hail from Chittapur taluk, 26 from Kamalapur taluk, six each from Sedam and Shahabad taluks and a worker belonging to Kalaburagi City of the district arrived in the train.
About 7,700 migrant workers got their names registered in Seva Sindhu app. Of the migrants arrived on the train, only eight people enrolled their names in the app. Another train ferrying the workers will arrive in the City on May 13 (Wednesday).
Food Committee Chairman Praveen Priya David said the district administration provided 1500 each food kits and water bottles, buttermilk, biscuit and Glucose-D to the workers.
MP Umesh Jadhav visited the railway station and inquired about the well-being of the arrived workers. Preparation was done by revenue and health departments, Mahanagara Palike, NEKRTC in the wake of the arrival of the stranded migrant workers. A disinfectant tunnel was set up at the premises of the railway station. The arrived workers were sent to their respective taluks.
